Photography

My series, some developed into photography books.

Curious Surfaces, 80 pages, 9.5" x 8", softcover

Curious Surfaces

The photographs in this book explore built, repaired, repainted or weathered surfaces as found sculptural friezes about the motives and desires of the people who left their marks on them, and their stories recorded in them, across the decades.

Signed softcover. 80 pages, 9.5" x 8", on premium luster-finish paper. $49 ea. plus sales tax if shipped to Virginia, and $5 shipping.

Signs of Dysfunction, 80 pages, approx. 8" x 10", hardcover.

Signs of Dysfunction

Blank, redacted, broken, rusted, misspelled - dysfunctional signs prominently declare nothing, proclaim nonsense, or subvert the sign-maker's purpose. Only by zeroing in on signs without ostensible meanings can we really see their underlying messages, information our subconscious minds have always gathered beneath our notice.

Signed hardcover. 80 pages, approx. 8" x 10", with dust jacket. $42 ea. plus sales tax if shipped to Virginia, and $5 shipping.

Underfoot Abstracts, 20 pages, approx. 8 ½ " x 11", softcover

Underfoot Abstracts

Examines how lines and shapes found on pavement and concrete form abstract images -- with the addition of 4 edges.

In some ways, this is an experiment in composition. Photographers decide on framing and selection with every subject, but how does it work when the subject itself is non-representational?

Signed softcover, 20 pages, approx. 8 ½ " x 11". $15 ea. plus sales tax if shipped to Virginia, and $2 shipping.

Ongoing Series

One day these could become books.

Jefferson Pools, 12" x 18", digital archival print

Ineffable Spaces

Portrays atmospheric places in the built environment, each with a unique ambiance that's difficult to explain in words - and not so easy to explain in a photograph, either, as it turns out.

Fun Slide, 12" x 18", digital archival print

Graphical Statements

Explores fragments of signs or other bold graphical markings, and their effect in a carefully selected portion of their original context.

Wipers, 12" x 18", digital archival print

Black and White Near Abstract

Plays with the near limits of abstraction, where at least some of the picture elements are barely recognizable. These photographs are primarily about how the formal qualities of shapes, textures and lines work within a composition.
